Opportunities for Inclusion
Providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1956

Volunteerism

One of the primary missions of Opportunities for Inclusion is to provide community inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmentally disabilities. Often, this means taking participants from the building and out into the community. But just as often, it means volunteers coming to us and bringing the community into Opportunities for Inclusion.

WHAT YOU BRING

Your skills, talents, and interests in individuals we serve are gifts to us, and are greatly appreciated by everyone at Opportunities for Inclusion. Your time is one of the most valuable resources you may donate to us.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you are to work directly with participants, we provide orientation and training. This orientation includes an agency overview, safety and confidentiality information, and some basic information about how to work with the individuals with intellectual and developmentally disabilities. You will always have an opportunity to consult with experienced agency staff. Volunteers are not left alone with participants. If you are not working directly with participants, agency staff members will get you organized and set for your time with us.

CORPORATE VOLUNTEERISM

We are happy to have corporate volunteers. Past corporate volunteers have included eGeneration Marketing, UPS, Bank of America, NStar and AstraZeneca. They have joined us for gardening, art, and building maintenance/painting projects. Projects are selected to match the interest of the group and the number of available volunteer hours.

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERISM

Some of the ways volunteers may help out:

  • Cook your favorite recipe with us
  • Bring us your musical skills
  • Teach us about your culture
  • Donate your indoor/outdoor gardening skills
  • Help participants complete their daily activities
  • Assist at our annual Harvest Breakfast and other community events.
These are just some of the ways that volunteers have helped us in the past. However, we are always eager for new ideas and pleased to introduce our participants to new experiences.

GROUP VOLUNTEERISM

Area educational institutions and other organizations arrange to bring individuals to Opportunities for Inclusion or to bring our participants to them. These arrangements are tailored to meet the needs of participants as well as the schedule and interests of the groups. Past group volunteer projects have been completed by Gann Academy and McDevitt Middle School. Also, Brandeis University student groups and Bentley University Service Learning Center provide ongoing volunteers to programs. Please contact us today to arrange an individual, corporate or group volunteer experience. Not sure how you might assist? Contact us and our Volunteer Coordinator will help you design an opportunity that is just right for you and/or your organization.
